A new classic
This season marks the renaissance of the pearl. The prim and polished gem has been reworked into an edgy statement without losing its essence of vintage glamour.
Whether you’re rummaging around in your grandmother’s jewellery box or are looking to contemporary brands for an undone and slightly distorted finish, there’s no denying that pearls have successfully made their way back into the outfits of the most fashionable.
The modern interoperation of this underwater gem is refreshing, but I can’t deny the Bridgerton-Esque appeal of a polished round gem that delicately rolls against the skin. You don’t want them to be too small or comically large either. Aim for somewhere in the middle so you have an option to make a single statement and to layer.
The Jacquie Aiche take
A tier of pearls is something bohemian jewellery designer Jacquie Aiche has been toying with. The LA-based creative has unveiled three Freshwater Pearl Beaded Necklaces that have been designed and made in the US.
Aiche played up the retro vibe of pearls by adding in precious stones in a radiant and emerald cut. The result is striking but not overwhelming. The three necklaces complement one another so be bold and wear them all at the same time – and perhaps add a diamond necklace for variety.
Give these pearls a modern treatment by styling them with a simple look like a crisp white shirt and jeans or a tailored leather blazer. The contrast of the feminine and masculine will play in your favour and keep these nacreous gems in 2021.
