Al Wadi Desert Resort by Ritz Carlton

A desert getaway…

Each villa comes with an expansive bathroom and bikes to get around.

[dropcap]This [/dropcap]weekend we decided to get away from the Dubai hustle and enjoy some quality time in the desert. We have been looking forward to exploring more parts of the UAE and with Ras Al Khaimah only being a 90 minute drive away, it was a great place to start.

Al Wadi Desert Resort has recently changed from Banyan Tree to Ritz Carlton and you can definitely feel the transition. The villa-only resort is set amongst the dunes with each room offering plenty of space and an outdoor pool. We had to drive through a sand storm to get there which was pretty stressful so it was nice to arrive to vast room with plenty of facilities and a comfy bed. The room did feel like it needed an update in furnishings with few scuffs here and there, but apart from that it was tranquil and private.

During our stay there were two restaurants operating at the time, but I’ve heard that they’ll be transforming their main restaurant into an organic eatery which sounds ideal for the resort. The food was okay and it did take them a while to note down our order but I’m sure this will change when it becomes fully Ritz Carlton. The highlights for us was cycling round the grounds, watching the falcon show with expert staff and enjoying the rain forest spa which involved 12 stages of different showers, therapeutic steam rooms and sauna as well as a large swimming pool at the center.

The resort has amazing potential to be great. It’s clear to see where the changes can be made and I can’t wait to check out the results.
