There is a secret amongst Parisian women of how to achieve an effortless chic look…
When you think of Parisian fashion the first thing that comes to mind is ‘casual chic’. They are never overdressed or underdresssed and have a confidence in their effortless style – it is more about the clothes fitting you than you fitting the clothes.
When I was putting this look together one thing that came into my mind was Coco Chanel who once said that before you leave the house you should look in a mirror and remove one item. I was about to add my Chanel pearl necklace, as well as a pair of chunky sunglasses but sometimes less is more so pick one statement piece, like I have done with a cropped tweed jacket, and let it be in the spotlight (similar at L.K Bennett and Michael Kors).
One thing I keep reading about is the ‘Parisian uniform’. Every women has these basics in her wardrobe; crisp white shirt, a black knee-length skirt, cashmere sweater, ballet flats (sky high heels are not practical darling) a silk scarf and a fitted blazer (hello Saint Laurent!). I also noticed that they keep their makeup minimal and their hair slightly undone.
Although most Parisians would’ve probably worn some tailored trousers with this jacket and blouse (&Other Stories), a good pair of skinny jeans are more ‘me’. Pinterest is full of outfit inspirations and I loved seeing how women were dressing in Paris, but it’s important to stay true to yourself. Injecting a bit of you into every look is what the real essence of ‘style’ is all about.
