New Years Eve is upon us and so is the annual panic of what to wear! In Russia NYE is sort of a big deal where all the family dress up and gather round a beautifully decorated table bursting with food and drink. It’s a time where we give presents and make wishes for the coming year while also looking back on the last 12 months. It’s about reflection and celebration so it is very similar to Christmas, which the Russian’s don’t celebrate as we have a different religious calendar and our Christmas falls on the 7th of January.

This time we’re waving off 2016 in Dubai with my family and I have decided to stop panicking about what to wear and focus on the beauty look instead. A dramatic lip has been a huge trend this winter from the likes of Dior and Marc Jacobs but I never thought it could work for a neutral lipstick loving person like myself. But I love it. It’s like putting the ‘good-girl’ persona on hold and turning to your dark mysterious side for an evening. Make sure to prep your lips with a little bit of concealer and line the lips so the lipstick doesn’t leak. Apply Dior Rouge in 602 Visionary Matte with a brush, wipe off any excess and dab a bit of powder round the lip line to set.

Dramatic lip deserves a bold look so opt for dark tones and stick to luxe fabrics like lace, embroidery and velvet. It can also work with sequins but be careful not to go overboard as this style is supposed to ooze elegance and sophistication. Below is a selection of pieces that can work for a midnight lip and best of all they are all on sale! Don’t dare to go blue? Check out this dark cherry lip look instead.

Looking forward to catching up with you all on Friday for my 2016 roundup x
