A roundup of my trip to the French Riviera…
Don’t think I’ve ever been as desperate for a holiday as I have been these last few weeks. London has just started to feel like a drag so I was super excited to get away and spend a week on the French Riviera!
One the best things for me was definitely the short 1 hour and 30 minute flight from Heathrow. For a person who loves traveling I am a such a nervous flyer, so to be able to hop on a plane and be in Nice in so quickly is a BIG plus. Once landed it was a quick 40 minute drive along the incredible coastal views before reaching Monte Carlo Bay Hotel.
Situated just a 20 minute walk from the center of Monte Carlo, it is a perfect sunbathing getaway as well as in good reach of all the bars and restaurants. It has two huge swimming pools, one filled with sand (something different) a Michelin starred restaurant, a great bar with a terrace and gorgeous rooms. We were really lucky to get a two-room suite overlooking the whole resort and the sea from the 10th floor.
The days were spent lounging by the pool, exploring Monte Carlo, shopping (obviously), checking out all of the super cars whizzing up the F1 track, visiting the beautiful village of Eze (loved La Chevre d’Or) and driving down to Grand-Hotel du Cap–Ferrat where we enjoyed an amazing al fresco dinner under the trees covered in fairy lights.
One downside is that I didn’t get a chance to swim in the sea more than once and I LOVE the sea. The pebble beaches were not great and the ones that looked good were €130 for a day!
If you’re planning a little trip to the French coast then I suggest not spending more than 3 days in Monte Carlo, unless you want to use it as a base to visit Nice and Cannes. The main casino isn’t that exciting, although we did see Lady Gaga, but mainly it’s a few rooms with tables but not much glitz and glamour. Definitely see the Prince’s Palace of Monaco but don’t worry about going inside, the view is enough. If you feel flashy hire a boat for a day as the sea is glorious but the pebble beaches are not. To eat I can’t recommend Restaurant Joel Robuchon and Le Vistamar highly enough and we also had a lovely lunch in the main port near all of the amazing yachts.
Monte Carlo was fabulous and beautiful, it offered almost everything I wanted from a holiday and with it being less than 2 hours away, I’ll definitely be going back!
