When it comes to party dressing, I like to go for rich fabrics like lace or velvet (check out the suit I styled last year) and feminine shapes. This festive season I’m spending in Dubai so my approach to evening wear is going to be modest but by no means boring. Baroque trend, touch me twice pieces, and rich embroidery has dominated this season and it’s definitely something you can indulge in. This dress (with a slip underneath) by Amal Al Raisi is dramatic, elegant and the gold stitching gives it a wow factor. Amal is an Omani designer who marries the traditional sense of dressing and modern style catered to a strong woman.

Although this sort of style can appear overwhelming, it is perfect for the party season and the fact that it’s a wrap around design means you can wear it open over a more casual look like jeans and a top which gives it versatility. It is a trend for the bold and those who want to add a bit of royalty to their wardrobe, so here are some tips to styling it:

  1. Go for two tone pieces like the above which is a mix of black and gold
  2. Be bold and wear it head to toe
  3. This is not just for evening. A rich embroidered A-line skirt would look amazing with a crisp white shirt for work
  4. And for those who want the maximum impact – clash the embroidery with stripes or florals
  5. Staying in the safe zone? Brocade accessories are your best friends
