Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex…
[dropcap]As[/dropcap] soon as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle touched down in Sydney for their royal tour, Kensington Palace announced that they are expecting their first child in Spring (according to my very rough calculations, it will be an April bubba.)
Baby announcements and seeing cute bumps on daily basis makes me reflect back on my own pregnancy which was absolutely wonderful for most the time. There was only one moment I broke down in tears and that’s when I suddenly got a swollen belly and was shocked by how different my body looked. After that, I loved dressing up my bump and even more so towards the end of my final trimester.
Maternity dressing in Dubai is super easy as all-year-round sunshine allows us to live in loose dresses and sandals with little need for mom-jeans or any other pieces that require zipping or buttoning up. For Meghan, it won’t be as easy with London winters of strong winds and rain and if I were her I’d invest in some knit dresses, cocoon coats and ankle boots that will be comfortable when legs get swollen.
She is also a fan of tailoring which you can easily do with a bump. Instead of trousers, go for a midi skirt that you can wear just above the belly and add an elongated blazer. It’s tempting to wear looser clothes, but I found tighter pieces had a slimming effect and neatly showed off the bump. And if you want to wear jeans, then you can get away with your usual pair and just use an elastic band to fasten. If you need some bump inspo, then check @thefashionbugblog who has one of the best maternity styles I’ve seen and is also a London resident like Meghan.
I’m sure there will be a lot of comparison between Kate Middleton and Meghan, but the Duchess of Sussex has her own individual style and I’m pretty sure that just like with Kate, everything she wears will be an instant sell out.
Below, I pick some of my mummy-to-be friendly pieces that would look super chic on the royal. Click on the product names to shop!
