As the temperatures drop, I’ll be reaching for my shearling…
Its slowly but surely getting cold in London (they’ve even started putting the Christmas lights up on Oxford Street!) and due to this climate shift I have been attacked by a wave of flu, so Im staying at home for the day in hope to recover for the weekend! One good thing about feeling poorly is that you reach for the cosiest things, be it a blanket, fluffy slippers or even a nice warm coat.
What I love about shearling is the versatility, from long sweeping coats to seventies inspired jackets, there is a style that can work for everyone. I am a huge fan of the fitted black coat that you see in the first shot as it doesn’t make me feel bulky and while it’s still mild, it gives comfort without the sweat (find similar at Joseph).
The long styles are perfectly elegant and ideal for wrapping you up head to toe (almost). My coat in the second picture has a wide hood (great alternatives from MiH and Edun) that I can throw on when it gets really windy and it works with casual jeans and jumper, but can also compliment a wool skirt and blouse or an evening dress.
But the one style everyone will be snapping up this season are the 70s inspired shearling jackets, similar to the one I wore to NYFW earlier this year. The more oversized the better, the loose fit gives it a wrap around factor and cool ‘I dont care’ vibe which is ideal with flared jeans, or if you want to achieve the Chloe boho vibe, go for a maxi floral dress and block heel ankle boots. Everyone is snapping up the ones in Zara but I’m also loving these from ACNE and Lipsy. If you fancy a darker shade like I wore in the shot above, check out ASOS.
How would you style the shearling coat? Let me know in the comment box below! xxx
