I absolutely love red lipstick but it did take me a while to find the ideal one for me…
I believe it can make everyone look fabulous, its just a case of getting the right shade and texture for you, so here is my little guide to how to apply red lipstick.
Step One: Prepare the lip area by giving it a little scrub with a toothbrush to make sure there is no dry skin. I sometimes dab bit of YSL Touche éclat (£25) on the lip line to prepare for the pencil (you can also use Lightening Touch from the Body Shop £14).
Step Two: Start applying the lip liner which will stop the lipstick from bleeding over. I love Chanel Le Crayon Levres Rouge in 24 £17.50 as it also has a brush to apply lipstick with, but there are other great options from Mac or Shiseido. Start on the top lip applying the colour from the middle down and then the same on the bottom lip. I tend to fill a lot of my lips in as its a good base and holds the lipstick in place for longer.
Step Three: Use the the brush and apply a generous amount of lipstick following the shape of your mouth. I tried a few and a perfect one for me is YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 50 £26 although you can always get a matching one to the liner. Mush your lips together to press in the product which will smooth things out and makes it last (I sometimes use cotton buds to wipe away any smudges and use a little bit of powder on the edges for a soft finish).
Tip: If you want a plump lip apply the liner after the lipstick, it will glide on easier and add depth of colour. If you have thinner lips, you can cheat for fullness by drawing the liner just outside your lip line.
