Perfect mix of Ukrainian tradition and high fashion…
It’s been amazing to see so much emerging fashion talent coming from Eastern Europe from the likes of Vika Gazinskaya, Ulyana Sergeenko, Natasha Zinko, Anna K and now one of the most instgramed new brands Vita Kin. Hailing from Ukraine, the hand stitched folk dresses inspired by traditional embroidery have been seen on everyone from Anna De La Russo and Leandra Medine (The Men Repeller) to Mira Duma and Jourdan Dunn. Beautifully crafted Slavic designs and light linen fabric make the pieces perfect for the hotter month, no wonder they sold out on Net-A-Porter within minutes!
I managed to get my hands on this mini number and love the balloon sleeves that are beautifully hand stitched as well as the little tie tassels. The fabric is very light and I can see why they have been such a summer favourite! One thing I do I have to note is that they all come as ‘one size’ and although I don’t shy away from oversized pieces, I found it a bit overwhelming on my small frame. The longer dresses do have more of a wow factor but I’m pretty sure I’d drown in them and given the price, it’s a shame to have to do a few alterations to achieve a better fit.
But I have to say the price is justified considering it takes 3 weeks to make one piece by using old age methods and you have to agree that the craftsmanship is beautiful! Attention grabbing as they are gorgeous, Vita Kin managed to create a sense of fun through her designs and reminded the rest of world that Eastern Europe is brimming with talent.
This is high fashion brought out of traditional roots and I’m sure we’ll be spotting them on the streets of fashion week from New York to Paris. What do you think? x
