Learn more about the girl behind the blog…
Where are you from?
I am originally from Moscow.
When did you move to England?
I moved to the UK when I was 10 to study and then continued onto university and finally joined the real world of work.
Where do you live?
I was living in London for the past 10 years with my husband and our dog (a puggle called Sydney) before moving to Dubai a few months ago.
How did you start working in magazines?
My career path was a bit random. I started off interning in magazines like More! Marie Claire and Company but then ended working in TV for companies like ITV and Sky. I loved the fun fast paced environment and constantly meeting new people but I missed magazines so made a decision to pursue a career in luxury publishing.
How did you get a job in a fashion magazine?
Again a bit random. At university I loved making short films and working with visuals so I wanted to have a career based around the creative process. Through pestering I finally got to meet the picture editor at the time of ELLE UK and she invited me to join on 6-month basis. At the end of my internship I freelanced for them and then carried on with short-term contracts at Harpers Bazaar, Town & Country, Glamour and Stylist. Eventually I was invited to join Harpers Bazaar as a picture assistant and I absolutely loved my job and the team! I was there for almost a year before moving to Dubai and becoming a Picture Editor of Emirates Woman.
What does a Picture Editor do?
It’s my job to help make every issue look as visually beautiful as possible. I research image libraries, come up with shoot concepts for fashion, beauty and lifestyle and also attend these shoots to provide visual direction. We are a small team so I also get to do a bit of writing.
Why did you start blogging?
When you freelance you tend to have gaps between work so to fill my time I wanted to have a creative outlet as a way to continue developing my skills and learning more about fashion. I was lucky to know a successful fashion blogger Julia Lundin already who gave me a lot of advice and I also met an amazing photographer Victoria Adamson while I was at ELLE UK. Without them both I don’t think I would have started it at all!
Why did you name your blog Sweatshirts & Dresses?
These are two of my favourite items!
Five things that you cant live without?
Celine sneakers, Kindle, Chanel bag, wedding rings and my iPhone.
Sushi and pasta.
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
Hands down a penguin! They slowly wobble about and slip over but once they are in the water they’re like rockets! Someone analysed my choice and how it reflects on me as a person and said ‘people don’t expect much from you but once you dive in they are amazed’. Plus, I like fish.
