New appreciation for the great British countryside
When we were living in London, going on a mini-break, or a long vacation felt like such a waste of annual leave. Surely we should be exploring Europe or taking a long haul flight to a far-flung destination?
A few months into our new life in Dubai, we came to realise that a staycation is one of the best kinds of vacation. You miss out on all of the airport fuss and there’s no jet lag to worry about.
Okay, I agree, a sunny beachside staycation seems like a far better deal than the rainy British countryside, but trust me, after four years in the desert where you get a handful of months to enjoy the glorious surroundings before the summer heat returns, the UK feels like an all-year-round destination.
The rain can put a damper on a getaway, but what could be better than log fire and a glass of wine to warm you up? Most hotels also have fabulous spas, delicious restaurants serving up local produce and activities that can be enjoyed in any weather. Some are also located in picturesque towns or villages, so slip on your Hunter wellies and head down to one the local pubs.
Once lockdown 2.0 is lifted, we are going to schedule in some mini-breaks to enjoy the best of what’s on our doorstep.
