Her kiss is poison…
Dark and dramatic lip was the standout beauty trend of AW16 and no one did it better than Dior. But is it wearable? I’m the type of person who rarely ventures from the safe zone of nudes and corals, but despite that I was intrigued by this mysterious and dangerous hue.
Turns out, applying a dark shade is really hard! The Dior’s Rouge in Poison doesn’t glide on easily by itself, which I should’ve know as it’s matte! Lesson learnt, I prepared my lips again with a dab of foundation and then using a lipstick brush started to carefully apply layers of the burgundy and wiping away any mistakes (note to self: Dior Contour lip liner is ideal for a precise finish). Makeup artist Peter Philips wanted the lips to be the focal point and so like him I kept the rest of my look simple. What I did differently is not add the Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Bulle for that mirrored effect as I felt that would work better for an evening look along with Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara that you apply over a layer of Dior Beauty Diorshow Maximiser 3D for extra drama.
I’m pleasantly surprised and how much I like the final look and although this won’t be my day-to-day option, I’ll definitely wear it again for a glamorous night out.
Would you venture to the dark side?
