Sharing my baby shower at home and revealing our baby girls name!
[dropcap]Baby[/dropcap] showers are such a lovely way to celebrate future motherhood, though it was a shame not to have family or close friends from London there. I do think baby showers should be mixed and involve the dad as they do so much in terms of emotional support and heavy lifting – maybe there can be a ‘new parents’ party instead!
I decided to have it at home and with the help of some pink decorations, amazing balloon display from Happy Bubble Balloons, cupcakes by one of my friends and a huge bouquet from Bliss Flowers. I kept it casual and invited some of my closest friends in Dubai and Abu Dhabi who made my day extra special with their encouraging words and beautiful gifts.
I know so many people choose a restaurant setting or go all out with an event that could resemble a wedding (which look incredible!) but there is something really lovely having everyone over a few weeks before we have a newbie in the house.
And now on to the name. Unlike some of my friends, I never thought about my baby names as motherhood seemed like such a distant thing. Lola is inspired by my mum. Her name is Olga but my dad nicknames her Lola and when Kip heard that he instantly fell in love with a name, and I can’t think of anything better! Plus it’s easy to pronounce in both English and Russia.
So here we are, 26 days away from meeting baby Lola and although we have so much to worry about and do, we are feeling more ready than ever. Soon I’ll be sharing more about our birth plan including why we chose our hospital in Dubai and more about the prenatal class.
